CW Resources History

The roots of the Company go back to a one-man operation run by Carl A. Westerman in the early 1960’s.  After working for General American Oil Company, Carl started on his own, drilling and producing wells in the East Texas Field. He continued through the sixties and seventies like many independent operators in East Texas, buying producing wells, improving them and accumulating the capital to start his own exploration. 

On September 6, 1983, C W Resources was incorporated with its primary office in Carl's home and it's field office in his truck.  Carl's independent exploration then started in earnest with the drilling of the John Barksdale #1 which is located northeast of Gladewater, Texas.  For the next several years, CW Resources, Inc. continued to drill one or two wells a year. 

CW Resources, Inc. moved into the Mount Sylvan Salt Dome area of Smith County in the late 1980’s.  During the next three years, four (4) very successful wells were drilled in Mount Sylvan enabling CW Resources to expand their scope.

Starting around 1987, CW Resources, Inc. began leasing mineral rights in Gregg and Upshur Counties of East Texas, which later became known as the White Oak Field. Development of the Field started in early 1991 with the spudding of the Houston Stephens Well #1.  After numerous difficulties, this well was abandoned when the casing in the hole collapsed.  In July 1991, the Houston Stephens Well #1X was started and drilled to a depth of 12,120 feet.  The first production from this well started in Feb. 1992.

Over the next 8 years, CW Resources, Inc. drilled, completed and produced over 200 wells primarily in the White Oak and Glenwood Fields. The majority of those wells were drilled in the Cotton Valley Sand formation to depths of approximately 11,000 feet. In May of 2000, CW Resources, Inc. sold its interest and operations of the White Oak Area.

Since May 2000, CW Resources, Inc. has both developed prospects and drilled wells in Anderson, Angelina, Smith, Cherokee, Leon, Rusk, Harrison and Marion Counties and currently operates over seventy gas and oil wells.

The Company is poised to continue it's expansive growth.  Its asset base will support the expansion of its operating area in the quest to discover additional gas reserves.
